I had the coolest opportunity to head up to New York with the OPI team for Fashion Week! Ever since becoming a nail tech, I always dreamed of what it would be like to work as a backstage manicurist, and what do you know, it happened!
I worked three of the top shows which were: Jeremy Scott, rag & bone, and Rodarte. Each show was fast paced, hectic, exciting, and really fun all at the same time. Jeremy Scott was definitely the most crazy, just because (I’m pretty sure) they had the most models that needed to be prepped. I saw some of the top models in the game, including GiGi and Bella Hadid (who are just as pretty in person!).
The nails for Jeremy Scott we’re super bright, and as Miss Pop put it, plastic fantastic! Miss Pop is OPI’s lead manicurist for NYFW and they couldn’t have picked a better lead! She is amazing at what she does and is SO sweet! The OPI polishes used we’re No Room For The Blues, I Just Can’t Cope-A Cabana, In My Back Pocket, That’s Hot! Pink, and Kiss Me I’m Brazilian.
After watching the show, we had to run back to the hotel for a quick 30 minute lunch, then head to Brooklyn for rag & bone. I loved going to Brooklyn since it has a totally different vibe from Manhattan. The show was located in St. Ann’s Warehouse, right under the Brooklyn Bridge. Such a cool place. For the rag & bone nail look, we used two coats of Indigo Motif from OPI’s Color Paints collection then finished it off with a matte top coat. The end result made the nails look like frosted beach glass which is brilliant!
The show ended about 9PM and when I finally got back to my hotel, I grabbed some dinner and basically crashed. Thank goodness I went to bed as early as possible because our call time for Rodarte the next day was 5AM! Ouch. But, it was all good because when I arrived there was a HUUGGEE table set up with breakfast goodies. If there’s food, it’ll be okay, amirite?!
For the nails at Rodarte, we created clean metallic accents using OPI’s DS Radiance, Glitzerland, and A Great Opera-unity mixed with top coat for a sheer finish. I loved this design because it’s chic and very easy to recreate. All you need are some french tip stickers to create the curved lines at the base and tip, and wah-la!
The show was truly amazing and I LOVED every bit of it! I would wear every single thing that I saw. The models looked beautiful and the nails went very well with the collection. Rodarte wrapped up the end of Fashion Week for OPI so it was time to pack up and get ready to head home. It was such a great experience to be in the thick of it all and see what it’s really like working backstage as a manicurist. I learned a ton and am truly grateful for such an awesome opportunity!
Be sure to watch the mini series on my channel for a better look at my trip!
Until next time! ~
